Say Goodbye to the Double Chin with Kybella!
Advanced Dermatology and Skin Cancer Associates
is offering their July special. Buy 2 vials of KYBELLA® and receive $100 off your treatment
until July 31.
KYBELLA® , a revolutionary procedure that reduces the appearance of
moderate to severe submental fullness also referred to as the “double chin”
affecting millions of individuals.
According to a 2015 survey conducted by the
American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), 67% of people said they were
bothered by submental fullness caused by aging, genetics and weight gain.
Sometimes, no matter how much diet or exercise is accomplished, the condition
may not go away, making individuals look older and heavier than they actually
are.
KYBELLA® is an injectable, in-office treatment lasting 15-20 minutes. It is
the first and only FDA-approved treatment to minimize excess chin fat. The active
ingredient in KYBELLA® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body
that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into
the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells. Once destroyed, cells cannot store or
accumulate fat leaving a leaner and precise profile.

May is National Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States with an estimated 3,500,000 cases diagnosed each year. According to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, it develops as an abnormal or uncontrolled growth of mutated cells of skin, typically in the top layer known as the epidermis. Skin cancer may initially appear as a bump or irregular patch on the skin. The most common types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma.
The month of May is National Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month. The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends that “everyone practice monthly head-to-toe self examination of their skin, so that they can find any new or changing lesions that might be cancerous or precancerous.” It’s also recommended to visit your local dermatologist to get a skin cancer screening.
The Melanoma Research Foundation is encouraging people to #GetNaked to "raise awareness about melanoma and the importance of being proactive” when it comes to skin cancer. Additionally, The ABCDEs of Melanoma post is helpful in catching these cancers early.

April is Rosacea Awareness Month
This month, we bring light to a skin condition that affects over 16 million people in the U.S. commonly found in adults over 30.
Symptoms are:
Facial redness. Rosacea usually causes a persistent redness in the central portion of your face. Small blood vessels on your nose and cheeks often swell and become visible.
Swollen red bumps. Many people who have rosacea also develop bumps on their face that resemble acne. These bumps sometimes contain pus. Your skin may feel hot and tender.
Eye problems. About half of the people with rosacea also experience eye dryness, irritation and swollen, reddened eyelids. In some people, rosacea eye symptoms precede the skin symptoms.
Enlarged nose. Rarely, rosacea can thicken the skin on the nose, causing the nose to appear bulbous (maraschino). This occurs more often in men than in women.
Since treatment is different for every patient, it is recommended that you visit a dermatologist for a tailored treatment plan.
Treatments for rosacea include oral and topical medications, lifestyle modifications, laser and light therapies and surgical procedures (used mostly for advanced cases). These treatments are often combined for better results.
The good news is that rosacea can be controlled and manageable with the right treatments and lifestyle.
For more information on rosacea visit The National Rosacea Society website.
If you are having any signs of this disease, schedule an appointment with one of our doctors at Advanced Dermatology and Skin Cancer Associates.

Employee Spotlight: Dr. Craig Gordon
Dr. Craig Gordon was raised in Sharon, Tennessee. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from The University of Tennessee in Knoxville and studied medicine at The University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis. He completed a one-year study of internal medicine at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville before moving to Jacksonville, Florida to complete a dermatology residency at The Mayo Clinic. During his residency, Dr. Gordon worked and trained with dermatologists at all Mayo campuses including Rochester, Minnesota, and Scottsdale, Arizona. He served as a resident board member of the Florida Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery from 2014 to 2015 and is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.
What led you to your career
I
chose dermatology because it was the specialty that appealed most to me. I like
how it incorporates multiple medical disciplines including surgery, advanced
medical cases, and pathology in an outpatient setting.
What are some of your goals in working in this field?
My first goal while working in this field is to provide excellent
patient care. After all, I’m here for patients and they are the reason why I wanted to be a
doctor in the first place. Another goal I have is to be the doctor who brings
relief for patients with the difficult medical cases that other doctors haven’t
been able to diagnose and treat.
What do you like most about your job?
There are many aspects of my job that I enjoy, but if I had to decide on
the number one thing, I would have to say interacting with patients and learning
about their life stories. You can learn so much from listening to another
person’s walk through life.
What are three career lessons you've learned thus far?
Three career lessons I have learned so far would be to always listen to
your patients, appreciate and respect those you work with, and try to start
everyday on the best foot possible.
Tell us three things most people don't know about you.
A few things most people don’t know about
me would be that I grew up on a farm in rural northwest Tennessee, I love
working on crossword puzzles in my free time, and The Commissary is my favorite
restaurant in town.
What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
Where is the best place you traveled to and why?
The best place I have traveled to is Arizona. I love how the landscape
ranges from the majestic desert to the high mountains. I’ve camped at the Grand
Canyon and explored many of the modern and progressive cities out there.
What is your favorite book?
What is your personal philosophy?

Sweeten her day by treating her to the full VIP treatment at Valentine special rates the whole month of February
Treat your loved one to the ultimate Valentine's Day spa package making them feel great inside and out at Advanced Dermatology & Skin Cancer Associates. Dr. Purvisha Patel, board certified dermatologist, creator of Visha Skin Care products, and owner of Advanced Dermatology and Skin Cancer Associates is offering three exclusive Valentine's month specials.
"Valentine's Day is just around the corner, so we are happy to offer our clients exclusive February specials and offering the ultimate lip and body package which includes lip filler and ulthera perioral, erasing lip lines with CO2, and sugar shrink body scrub with body balm and spray tan," said Dr. Patel.
A kiss is a powerful thing. Get kissable lips and diminish wrinkles with the ultimate lip package which includes lip filler and ulthera perioral for $850. Perioral wrinkles are fine or deep lines that occur around the mouth and lips. Fortunately, perioral wrinkles are treatable with ulthera, the new non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that uses the ultrasound and the body's own natural healing process to stimulate the deep structural support areas of skin.
Improve your pout by erasing lip lines with CO2 and filler for $750. Fillers, or dermal fillers consist of a variety of elements by which to rejuvenate the skin and add volume to the face, lips, or other parts of the body. Some fillers are made of soft tissue components, patients own fat or from a chemical developed to imitate soft tissue.
Diminish winter skin and achieve a smooth and touchable body. Indulge in luxurious sugar shrink body scrub with body balm and a spray tan for $129. Spray tanning is a safe alternative to tanning in the sun or in a tanning bed and at Advanced Dermatology & Skin Cancer Associates spray tans don't include some of the harsh chemicals that can be dangerous.
